In the third episode of Pondering Prose: An Author Interview Series, host April Stults talks with author, Morgan Beck, about organizing your creative ideas and doing the research necessary to world-build no matter what genre you’re writing in.

As Morgan mentions in her interview: “Research is fun, especially when it’s a fictional story… When you are reading a book you want to feel like you’re really there.”

Pondering Creativity with Morgan Beck

Each week, we ask the authors we interview a series of prompted questions about their creative journey. Their responses are not edited and intend to continue the conversation about what it means to live and write creatively.

What does the word "creativity" mean in your world?

I believe that we are all born with the desire to create and that creativity is the chance we all have to express ourselves. Creativity can be shown through books, dance, paintings, music, mathematics, science, or anything we love.

Define your version of "success" in writing and pursuing creativity.

Success in creativity is when you as the creator are able to step back from your work and feel good about it. You can feel scared to send it out into the world, but you know you put your whole self into it.

What is the biggest thing that keeps you from your creative goals?

I think time management is the biggest distraction for reaching my own creative goals. I struggle to prioritize what needs to happen with what I could be doing.
